Summer art, music and drama opportunities for kids

Does your son or daughter have a creative streak? Here are some art, music and drama camps and classes you may want to check out for this summer.

Creative Stages, Siena Heights University’s summer drama and fine arts camp for students in grades 1-12, runs from June 23 to July 3. Two courses are offered: An Introduction to Creative Theater for grades 1-12 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and an Acting and Musical Theater Boot Camp for grades 7-12 from 1-4 p.m. Click here for more information.

Art Rocks Kids, Adrian College’s arts camp, takes place the week of July 14-18. There are two sessions: 9 a.m. to noon for students from ages 6-9, and 1-4 p.m. for students from ages 10-14. The theme is “Island Art Camp” and sessions will take place in the outdoor tent next to the Mahan Center for Art and Interior Design. Click here for a flyer (PDF download).

The Croswell offers two summer camps, both running from July 21 to Aug. 3. The Croswell Kids Performance Camp, for ages 5-15, will learn and stage “Once Upon A Mattress.” No auditions are required. For students with some performance experience who want to advance their skills, the Croswell’s Summer Performance Intensive will cover topics such as professional auditions, singing, make-up application for the stage, and movement for the actor. Auditions are required for the Summer Performance Intensive, and will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 23, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28. The Centre’s Mosaic Art Camp runs from July 7-11. There are two sessions for Mosaic Art Camp: 9 a.m. to noon for grades 1-3 (based on grade just completed), and 1-4 p.m. for grades 4-7. And for those interested in theater, two drama camps are scheduled: one group from July 14-26, which will stage “Honk! Jr.” at the end of the two-week camp, and another group from Aug. 4-16, which will stake “Willy Wonka Junior.” Both are for ages 6-18, and a discount is available for students registering for both camps.
