Today’s news: A new hospital between Adrian and Tecumseh, a new owner for the mall

Two big pieces of news today in Lenawee County: ProMedica made its long-awaited announcement of a new hospital between Adrian and Tecumseh, and the Adrian Mall has a new owner.

The Daily Telegram reports that ProMedica, the Toledo-based health system that operates Bixby and Herrick hospitals in Adrian and Tecumseh, plans to break ground on the new hospital early in 2016. It will be on the site of the former Centerview Golf Course, which ProMedica bought in 2012. Bixby and Herrick president Tim Jakacki told the Telegram that much of the Bixby building could be torn down, while a large portion of Herrick may be repurposed. The site, off of M-52 north of Adrian, is roughly halfway between Adrian and Tecumseh.

The Adrian Mall, which was offered up for sale by Equity Group Investments of Chicago, is being purchased by the Tabani Group out of Dallas, Texas. Possible tax incentives — to help with demolishing an unoccupied part of the former Sears location — were discussed at a recent city commission meeting.
