Helen Hokenson will be honored as Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year at the upcoming Habitat Michigan Awards Banquet on April 21 in Lansing, according to a news release.

Hokenson began volunteering with Habitat after being invited to serve on the HFHLC board in 1996. She previously was a family mentor at a Habitat affiliate in Fayette County, Indiana. She led the forming of a Faith Relations committee and chaired that committee for five years, and 15 churches came on board with volunteers and financial support. She also instigated Habitat’s annual Great Pasty Project 15 years ago.
