ASO’s ‘Music Moves Me’ program returns to Adrian and Tecumseh libraries

“Music Moves Me,” a music program for young children and their families, is returning to the Adrian Public Library and the Tecumseh District Library on Saturday. Presented by the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, the program is 30 minutes long and features short solo selections by ASO violinist Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos and guitarist Ryan Seay. Caryn Sieler, a music and movement specialist and owner of Lenawee’s Heart & Soul, will be leading the interactive program of rhymes, songs and picture books that inspire movement and careful listening. It’s designed with children ages 2 to 6 in mind. The program will be presented at 10:30 a.m. at the Adrian library and 1 p.m. at the Tecumseh library. Continue Reading

Adrian Public Library plans health and wellness fair

The Adrian Public Library’s first-ever Health and Wellness Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Various community organizations will be on hand to highlight health and wellness programs available to the public. Participants include ProMedica Diabetes Outreach with free blood pressure and glucose testing, The Lenawee County Mission, Housing Help of Lenawee, Lenawee County Health Department, the Catherine Cobb shelter, Adrian Lions Club, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Interconnections, Herbalife (with a cardio drumming demonstration), the Adrian Farmers Market, the American Red Cross, and Chelsey Boss with a table on nutrition. Disney’s “Oceans”: Movie Mondays at the Adrian Public Library presents Disney’s “Oceans,” a PG-rated documentary about the humans’ impact on marine environments. The movie is at 2 p.m. Monday. “Frozen”: The library’s Terrific Tuesdays series this week features a movie matinee of “Frozen.” The movie starts at 3 p.m., and run time is 103 minutes. Young Adult literature conference to bring authors to Adrian this fall

Young adult literature is the fastest growing segment of the publishing industry, appealing not just to teens but to many adults as well. Adrian resident Devyn Bice wants to give the growing ranks of YA fans a way to connect with some of their favorite authors — so he’s working with the Adrian Public Library to organize “ConTroll, YA,” a young adult literary conference that will take place this fall. ConTroll, YA is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guest authors will include Aimee Carter, Courtney Allison Moulton, Kelly Barson, Leah Clifford, Bethany Neal, Eric Priuska, Scott Tracey and Kate Bassett. In addition to author panels and book signings, Carter and Moulton will hold a writing workshop for aspiring authors. Continue Reading
